Flexible openness was the mandate. A matrix of sliding panels allow rooms to evolve or dissolve. The kitchen flows into the dining/living, the stair and its opening draws daylight from the master suite above and a windowed vista from front to rear increases the depth and spaciousness of the loft.
Steamed sycamore, douglas fir, white oak, natural edge walnut, and pietra cardosa stone were all used to create a warm but bright glow within the loft. Underneath the stair, storage and seating create a nonmud room alcove.
Within the sliding panels, an inlay of sanded plexiglass allows hints of light to inform all of when the panel is making the room or is tucked away.
Quarter-sawn douglas fir block steps with sandblasted stainless steel railings help connect the main loft to the master suite and terraces above.
On the upper master suite level, window seats in both the front and rear, extend into the terraces beyond, inviting them in while framing views to the outside.
Facing west, the main terrace also employs a sliding barn like panel. The graduated slot privacy wall, opens up and extends to the front to further enclose the sitting area.
The IPE garden wall is zippered with sanded plexiglass blocks that soak up the sunlight.
