Originally constructed in 1796, 321a is thought to be the oldest façade in Tribeca still remaining. It was left in disrepair and deemed for demolition. While the internal structure was beyond repair, the exterior historic façade was still intact. The George Ireland House restores the c.1800 facade and behind it is a new 5 story structure with commercial on the ground floor and two residential duplexes above.
The exterior street façade has been completely restored. New cornices are designed to follow the original, existing terra cotta lintels and sills are repaired, three new cast iron columns copy the one remaining at the site, and a new storefront aligns with the character of the District. Above, two peaked, lead coated copper standing seam rooftops set back from the façade create a contextual roofscape.
