Amagansett | Lens House
The Site, situated atop a ridge, commands the south and the beach. A Brise Soleil, with its horizontal beams, shields the sun to expose the view entirely and oriented, so the windows are in full shade during the Summer Solstice.
Facing North, the entry offers no clue about the view/ocean beyond. Three Camera Obscuras hint at what is inside and beyond without giving it all away.
The house itself is porous. Floor-to-ceiling retractable glass doors invite the outside deck to merge with the various living areas, the double-sided fireplace allows for fall fires outside and in, and the living room focuses the view south with again floor-to-ceiling glass. In contrast, the dining room skylights wash the wall with light.
The ocean can be seen from the bedroom and bath upstairs in the main bedroom suite, and a central skylight brings additional light.
This four-bedroom, four-bath, 4500 SF year-round vacation home commands and focuses the views. It is a lens to the site.
